With the $10,000 barrier now crossed we are well on our way to unlocking issue 4! Now seems like a great time for a feature on our premier artist for our debut issue -- the legendary Mark Schultz!
Mark Schultz is an American cartoonist, illustrator and writer who works with varying amounts of pictures and words, as a story requires. His interests in adventure fiction and the sciences led him to create his award-winning XENOZOIC TALES comics series.
He has illustrated a collection of Robert E. Howard’s CONAN OF CIMMERIAN and written the science primer THE STUFF OF LIFE: A Graphic Guide to Genetics and DNA. His illustrated novella, STORMS AT SEA, was released in 2015.
Currently, he scripts the adventures of PRINCE VALIANT for the Sunday funnies, produces cover images and commissions, and, most importantly, is hard at work on a new XENOZOIC story.
Mark is currently running an amazing Kickstarter of his own, to fund a Deluxe Signed Edition of CARBON 2, a collection of his latest works and an over-sized Deluxe Edition of STORMS AT SEA! Check it out and support this master illustrator:
Mark's illustration for SKELOS accompanies a never-before published piece by Robert E. Howard! It is a fictional essay that Howard wrote in early 1926 at the beginning of his career that is a prototype for the "The Hyborian Age" essay that he wrote years later when developing the Conan series. This work represents the earliest efforts at serious worldbuilding that Howard did, creating for the first time a rudimentary version of his prehistoric timeline featuring the Picts, Atlanteans, and Lemurians and the Great Cataclysm! Mark's gorgeous illustration depicts members of these early "races" overlooking the pre-cataclysmic globe!
As a special offer for backers of this Kickstarter, Mark is offering the original art for this illustration as an Add-On! The piece is India ink and brush on archival Bristol board, the actual drawing size is 10" x 7", on 11 1/2" x 9" board. $1,600.
